For this installment of Teams Spotlights, I interviewed Mariam, IBlieve’s Communications Lead. Here, Mariam tells us about the responsibilities of the Comms team, and what the creative process is like!
Please introduce yourself
My name is Mariam Harun, I am an M24 IB graduate. I studied IB in Turkiye and completed my last year in Dubai. I am the Communications Lead in IBlieve, and I am responsible for organizing all our announcements and publishing our newsletter by communicating with all the other team leads.
In your own words, what is the Communications team all about?
Our mission in Communications is to present all of our recent IBlieve activity in an easy-to-access way to our audience.
What is your writing, editing and publishing process like?
The newsletter is essentially the main source where our audience can get information on all of IBlieve’s most recent activities, which are aligned with the needs of IB students. Of course, we don’t want the reader to be overloaded with information, so we only write about the most recent events or the most useful resources. An example is promoting IBlieve content on revision resources and techniques around exam season. We also collaborate with most of the Team Leads to gain insight on what each team has done to highlight their works! I also have to give a big shoutout to Design and Illustration, from whom I take graphics from for the newsletter.
In terms of the writing and editing process, I start off by drafting the newsletter, adding and organizing the relevant information and resources to relevant sections. Information and resources are, of course, dependent on what has happened in the IB community and IBlieve at the time. I then make a second draft and send it off to the Executive Directors for editing before publishing it on a Monday.
How can the viewers sign up for the newsletter?
You can subscribe to our newsletter by going to https://iblieve.substack.com/ and entering your email. From there, you will get an email every time we publish one! All our newest releases, articles, podcast episodes, and news is shared on it!
We also announce events that you can participate in as well as upcoming recruitment cycles. So, if that is something you are interested in, keep a look out for them!
For you, what is your favorite part about being part of the Communications team?
I personally love organization and accessibility, and I love being able to put my skills to use by making our resources more accessible to a wide audience. I also enjoy spreading awareness for some topics and themes that the organization is dedicated to promoting! But most of all, I love the fact that no matter where we are in the world, we can all realize that we are going through the same experiences, and by connecting with each other, we can get through it together!
